COMMUNITY SERVICE

Community service is an aspect of Chi Omega that allows us to give back in so many ways! We believe that a life filled with service and love is a life worthwhile. Some fun community service events include helping out our local animal shelter, a parents night out for our Chi Omega alumnae, volunteering with the children at the Dubard School for Language Disorders, making dream catchers and blankets for wish kids, and hosting a telethon to reach out to the Hattiesburg community raising funds for Make-A-Wish. Additionally, many of our sisters go on mission trips each year, as well as volunteer on their own at churches, nursing homes, health facilities and more! To the right, Laney Cox, is serving in Honduras on a mission trip.

In 2018, we contributed

5,253

service hours not

only to Hattiesburg,

but communities all

around the world!

My name is Faith Fortenberry and I am Chi Omega’s Director of Community Service! My role as community service director is to document our members’ service hours and make sure everyone participates in meaningful service. I assist in helping members find places in the community to serve. I also work with the Songfest, Make-A-Wish, and Fundraising Chairs to ensure that our chapter does the most that we can for our community. In this semester alone, our members have contributed over 900 hours of community service ranging from visiting nursing homes, doing mission work in Guatemala, organizing food at local food pantries, and even tutoring local students! During the COVID-19 crisis, we used our time at home to write letters to healthcare professionals to encourage and thank them during these difficult times. I love my position because I get to witness first hand just how service-oriented this chapter really is. Our girls are servant-hearted and sure do love our community!!
